Well, if you can afford the $6 cover charge, there's indie and punk at the Hemlock Tavern on Polk Street on Friday, July 3rd with the Hospitals, Photobooth, and The Baths. Real Cheap Bastards go for the free stuff, though (leaves more cash for beer).
For totally free, check out Rob Reich on piano & Craig Ventresco on guitar at Amnesia on Valencia Street from 7pm-9pm (every week) or Bobbie Webb playing his sax at the Fillmore Center at 6pm. Note: that's the Fillmore aparment complex, not "The Fillmore."
