The $3.50 Torpedo Sandwich

OK, Lucca's Italian Deli on Valencia and 21st (or is that 22nd?) is the widely-known go-to place for your ravioli, your tortellini, your salumi, your grissini.... Their regular sandwiches are not outrageously priced - most are six bucks for a hard or soft roll packed with aged asiago and spicy copa (our personal fave combination). But cheap food eater, take heed: In a nearly hidden corner of the deli case, under the Campari and over the bread sticks, they always carry a daily load of premade monstrous sub sammies, packed with super yum Italian lunch meats and cheeses of varying stripes, for a mere $3.50. Lunch on, comrade, and enjoy.
