El dia de los muertos

One of the great events of San Francisco is Halloween, and in the Latino community, this season is best exemplified by El dia de los muertos, or Day of the Dead, in which our ancestors are honored and a reminder of our own mortality (a memento mori if you'll pardon the Latin) is made.

Local San Francisco bookstore, Get Lost Books, recently featured The Cheap Bastard's Guide to San Francisco on their fine web site, GetLostBooks.com.

Great Cheap Restaurant: B & M Mei Sing

Well, maybe "great" is not exactly the right word... but cheap, filling, delicious, and, if you know what to order, fresh Chinese food!

The perhaps unfortunately-named B & M Mei Sing is a downtown San Francisco Chinese steam table restuarant that's been around for years. They're on 2nd Street between (Jessie & Stevenson).

Cheap and Free events listings

One of the services we've offered to *you*, the reader of Cheap Bastard San Francisco, is the events listing you see on the right had side of the page. Click through some of the events and read carefully -- you'll notice that many of them charge admission, but if you read the fine print there are ways of getting in at reduced or no cost.

Plan your week carefully and you'll be swimming in free booze, food, & fun in San Francisco.
